Got up early and went to the track in Bath as I have a lot to do today.
I did a pump lap and a continuous peddling lap and then did 6 full speed laps with 5 minutes rest in between. I then did 5 x 10-12 peddle sprints in the car park with the long seat post. I rested 3 minutes between sprints. My manuals on the first straight were much cleaner than they had been and I only cased once on the second jump so getting better slowly.
Tomorrow I am going to go to Bristol to do full laps there and I will drop the rest time to 4 minutes as 5 minutes is too long.
I am also debating dropping my gearing lower to 36x16 to be on the same gearing as most of the fastest riders. I have 17 day until the next race which is at Bristol where I am training so I have plenty of time to get used to the new gearing.
I am going to leave the 37x16 gearing for tomorrow and time my laps and then tomorrow I will change my gearing and then do timed laps again on Sunday to see which is faster.
I will then decide which gearing to use.
Change of plans on the gearing front! I have just registered to race in a South Regional in Bournemouth on Sunday. I am going to change the gearing in the morning and then see how it goes in the laps tomorrow and also training on Saturday and racing on Sunday. I am not expecting to do too well as the South guys are all really quick and are mostly National Riders so I am basically going to get some speed training in but we will see.
I also really wanted to try the track out as it seems really nice and apparently has just been re done. I am also finding that racing is better for improving track fitness and speed as you are forced to go flat out all of the time.
The last time I went to a South Regional I got my arse handed to me as I was last in every race loosing on the last straight every time. That time the gate was really slow and I kept hitting it so I am hoping with a proper gate I can do a little better this time.
